Metal roofDouble-lock standing seam steelThe most common choice for a full roof. Panels are folded twice and closed with a seamer, so there are no exposed screws. CopperFull roofs and detailsStarts bright, turns brown within a few years and slowly goes green over decades. It's priced by weight and the joints are soldered by hand, so it's often used where people see it up close: a bay window, an entry canopy, a porch roof. ZincFormed and fitted by handA soft grey that weathers to an even matte finish. Cold zinc can tear when it is bent, so in winter we warm each sheet before forming it and keep working. How big is the roof?

Good to know: we price the roof surface, not the floor plan. Once slope and overhangs are counted, most houses have more roof than floor.

Above 8:12, the crew works from harnesses and roof anchors, which takes more time.

What shape is it?

Why it matters: every hip, valley, dormer and chimney needs its own flashing, cut and fitted by hand. That's where most of the work on a roof goes.
