Geodesic Dome

Every panel was measured and cut on site to meet its neighbours at the right angle, and every seam between facets had to shed snow and water without a standard flashing to lean on.

Location
North Calgary
Area
About 2,000 sq ft
Material
Steel, bronze-coloured trim
System
Metal shingles
[ The brief ]

Cover a geodesic dome house in metal without losing its shape. Many roofing companies had turned the job down before us. Constantin worked out the cladding system himself.

[ What we did ]

Steel shingles laid facet by facet, with custom trim along every edge.

[ The result ]

A dome that reads as one surface.

Bronze trim along the dome facets
The finished dome in winter
The dome from the front garden
Side of the dome by the stairs
Facets meeting at the top of the dome
Curved wall of the dome
Shingles being laid facet by facet
Trim and sealant during installation
[ Detail ]

Bronze trim traces every seam, so the dome reads as one shape instead of a patchwork.

[ Service ]

The craft behind it.

Domes, curves and shapes no standard panel fits. Every piece measured and cut for the roof it goes on.
